Duke to Raise Minimum Pay Rate for Regular Employees

Standard far exceeds federal minimum wage

Duke University and Duke University Health System will increase the current minimum wage for all regular employees to $12 per hour effective July 1, 2015.

Duke’s current minimum wage of $10.91 was last adjusted in 2012.  The new rate well exceeds the federal and state minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.

"This change sets a higher standard for regular employment at Duke that further strengthens our position as a family-friendly employer of choice in the region and nationally," said Kyle Cavanaugh, vice president for Administration at Duke.

Duke University and Health System annually review all pay ranges, including its minimum wage, relative to the local and national markets.

“We will continue to closely monitor the markets and make adjustments as needed in the future,” Cavanaugh said.

The adjustment will mean a pay increase for more than 400 current employees, who are being notified by letter.
