Employee discounts make home improvements more affordable

After 20 years of raising her sons, it was time for Carlotta Dunagin to replace the faded beige carpets in her home.

"Things were pretty threadbare," said Dunagin, a referral specialist for Duke Medicine.

Last year, she purchased new carpet for three bedrooms from Young's Flooring and saved about $600 through PERQS, Duke's employee discount program.

"I always ask businesses if they give a discount to Duke employees, but this was especially great because carpeting is a big investment," Dunagin said.
