Journalist David Bornstein, a leading national writer of social innovation, shares memories of the late Gregory Dees, a Duke University professor recognized internationally for developing social entrepreneurship as an academic field, during a Tuesday forum held in honor of Dees.
The author of two books, dozens of articles and other scholarship, Dees helped show how entrepreneurship and innovation could be blended with social missions to tackle poverty, pollution and other global challenges in new, effective ways.
The workshop on "Toward an Open Solution Society" was held in Geneen Auditorium at the Fuqua School. Colleagues spoke on innovative uses of social entrepreneurship and other themes that were part of Dees' work.
Following the workshop, a memorial service was held in the Divinity School's Goodson Chapel.
