Lee Baker Honored by National Association for Anthropological Research and Service

Lee Baker, Trinity College dean of academic affairs and a professor of cultural anthropology, has been selected as the recipient of the Society for the Anthropology of North America (SANA) Prize for Distinguished Achievement in the Critical Study of North America.

The prize is awarded to a senior anthropologist for contributions to research, teaching and services outside academia pertaining to the development of critical studies of North America.

SANA's Prize Committee cited Baker for his scholarship's theoretical focus on the history and politics of racial formation, and the role anthropology has played in that history and those politics. It said Baker has also demonstrated a strong commitment to public engagement by working at the African Burial Ground in NYC, supporting critical and well-informed teaching of the anthropology of North America, and assisting SANA and other professional associations.
