Stream Restoration Project Begins Near Oregon Street

Travelers moving through the Campus Drive construction project are getting a look at a second project: restoration of a stream that flows from East Campus to Sandy Creek near Oregon Street.

The project is part of a larger Duke effort to improve local water stability and quality and strengthen the region's watershed.  Part of the project is widening the stream's channel and creating a conservation easement with tree protection area.  Workers began creating a buffer area around the stream earlier this month.  Once that area is cleared, a variety of trees and shrubs, including oaks and hollies, will be planted to establish the buffer.
