News Office Workshop: "Public Communication for Researchers"
March 16 half-day workshop on effective communication and media relations for Duke researchers. Sponsored by the Office of News and Communications (ONC)

"The Public" -- taxpayers, policymakers and pundits -- often doesn't speak the same language as Duke's research community. But they DO have a powerful influence over your work.
Communicating effectively with a variety of audiences can build support for your science and help you find great students and colleagues, earn higher scores on your grant applications and advance your academic career.
To learn some tips for more effective communication, Duke's Office of News and Communications would like to invite you to join us from 9-11 a.m., Friday, March 16, in the Von Canon Room, Bryan Center (coffee at 8:30). We'll talk through some of the basics, introduce you to resources in the news office that may help you get your messages out, and do some practice exercises.
This session will include hands-on, active learning, so please bring writing materials or a laptop. We'll supply the crayons and markers.
Please RSVP to sakiya.lockett@duke.edu by March 12.
