Srini Iyengar, associate technology partner with Leaning & Organizational Development

Name: Srini Iyengar
Position: Associate technology partner, Duke Learning & Organization Development
Years at Duke: 6 years

What I do at Duke is: I teach technology classes to employees for their professional development and make sure they have the knowledge required for their job. These classes are essential for people who want not only to learn the subject matter, but also to use the tools efficiently.

If someone wanted to start a conversation with me, they should ask me about: Travel and technology are the two things that I'm most interested in. I'm originally from India, but I lived in Morocco for seven years. I've been to Gibraltar, Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Egypt. I'm really interested in other cultures and diversity.

If I had $5 million, I would: Definitely go back to traveling. That would be the number one thing. I've never been to Hawaii, so I'd love to go there to see volcanoes and waterfalls. It always looks so beautiful out there. There are so many places I haven't seen.

My first ever job was: I arrived to the U.S. as a foreign student and so I was not allowed to work off-campus. I was a student patrol officer on campus at North Carolina State University. I felt good about contributing to the security of the campus.

My dream job is: I would love to be able to do my work remotely on a plane going to a nice location, or on a tropical beach somewhere, with a laptop and without having to physically be in an office.

What I love about Duke is: The diversity. That's the one thing that attracted me here. Just seeing the different cultures of people and how Duke reaches out internationally. I think many organizations think they're already diverse but really they are not. I feel like Duke is always willing to grow and change.

When I'm not at work, I like to: I'm a tennis coach, so I like coaching kids. I'm a junior team tennis coach at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh. I use tennis as a tool to build character and mentor kids. I like to teach kids to be competitive and not be afraid of it.

If I could have one superpower, it would be: Teleportation. I love traveling, so with teleportation I could get somewhere fast and stay there longer or even come back fast!

Something most people don't know about me is: I was born and raised in India and grew up in Africa. I love to learn many languages.  I can speak seven languages, four of them fluently.
