"Enrollments
are consistently strong and still growing, and as a result, we have been able
to add additional sessions of the workshops most in demand," said James
McPherson, director of Learning & Organization Development, adding that
participation in classes slowed two years ago when the recession began but has
rebounded.

Back by popular
demand are professional and management development classes, such as
Communicating with Diplomacy and Tact, Fundamentals of Coaching & Feedback,
Keys to Supervisory Success and Project Management Fundamentals. Most of these
classes cost less than $100 and last from four to eight hours.

Computer courses
range from two-hour, $49 "power sessions" on specific software functions such
as Access 2007 queries or Excel 2007 Pivot tables, to full-day workshops on
programs such as Access, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign and Photoshop.

For 2011, two
new classes have been added: a 3.5-hour, $89 class on Outlook 2007 E-mail and
Calendar and a three-day, $399 Access 2007 Boot Camp covering lessons at the
intermediate and advanced level.

"We are
delighted to be able to provide these services to help employees at all levels
learn the skills they need to excel and advance at Duke," McPherson said. "We
know that commercial learning providers are simply unable to offer these
opportunities at comparable fees."
