Hof Milam to Step Down
Duke's vice president for finance and treasurer plans to leave in early December to become the senior vice president for finance and administration at Wake Forest, his alma mater.

Hof Milam, Duke's vice president for finance and treasurer, plans to leave in early December to become the senior vice president for finance and administration at Wake Forest University, his alma mater.
"Hof has done many good things here at Duke, such as leading efforts to enhance research administration and helping navigate our way through the recession's financial challenges," said Tallman Trask III, Duke's executive vice president. "But in the end, the pull of the university that his parents, he and his wife, and two of their children attended, was too great."
Milam joined Duke in 2003 and has overseen an array of accounting, reporting, and financial functions including treasury and cash management, bursar's office, payroll, procurement, accounts payable, corporate tax compliance, financial statements, administrative systems management, sponsored funds, university budget, cost allocations, and real estate.
Before joining Duke, Milam was senior vice president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer at QualChoice of North Carolina, the HMO affiliated with Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Prior to QualChoice, he was assistant dean for planning and resource management at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He received a bachelor of science degree in accounting and an M.B.A. from Wake Forest.
Trask said that Duke will conduct a national search for Milam's replacement. Tim Walsh, assistant vice president and controller, will serve as vice president for finance in the interim. Walsh has led the analysis efforts for the Duke Administrative Reform Team, which is directing efforts to reduce the university's budget by $100 million.
