James Morris, professor emeritus of medicine, dies
Dr. James J. Morris, Jr., Emeritus Professor of Medicine at Duke University, died peacefully on Friday morning, January 23, 2009. He was an educator, a mentor and a widely respected cardiologist in Durham for nearly 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; sons, James and Brian; his sister, Susan; brother Gerard; three grandchildren, Alexa, Caitlin and Scott; and six nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Thomas and parents Beatrice and James. Dr. Morris was tremendously beloved by all of his family.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Fr. William McIntyre O.F.M. and Rev. William Shouse officiating. Private burial will be held prior to the service in Maplewood Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at the Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.
