Page Anderson, Pediatrics Professor, Dies

Faculty member was well-known pediatric cardiologist

Dr. Page Anderson, Professor of Pediatrics and Vice Chair for Pediatric Research at Duke University Medical Center, died unexpectedly Saturday, November 8, 2008.

He was born January 12, 1942, in Berkeley, Calif., and completed his B.A. degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Duke University Medical Center in 1964, and served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968 during the Vietnam War. From 1968 to 1970, he was a resident in Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif. Dr. Anderson started with the Department of Pediatrics at Duke University Medical Center in 1970, specializing in Pediatric Cardiology and Cell Biology.

In April 2008, Dr. Anderson was recognized for being a long time member of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at Duke and was named the Beverly Morgan Professor of Pediatric Cardiology in honor of his many accomplishments related to understanding developmental changes in cardiac structure and function and advancing the care of children with heart disease.

He is survived by his wife, Nadia; his daughter, Ruth McGranahan, of Durham, and her husband, Michael; his son, Dr. Albert Anderson, of Atlanta, Ga., and his wife, Amy; grandchildren, Kloe and Liam McGranahan; and one sister, Leone McCoy, of San Diego, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dr. Anderson may be made to the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology Fellowship Fund, Duke University Medical Center, and mailed to the Duke Children's Development Office, Box 2975, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC, 27710.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, December 6, 2008.
