Libertarian Presidential Candidate to Speak at Duke
Bob Barr, the 2008 Libertarian presidential nominee, will speak on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Duke University.
Barr will speak about Libertarian issues including respect for the U.S. Constitution at 5 p.m. in room 139 of the Social Science building on Duke's West Campus. The event is free and open to the public.
"Mr. Barr recognizes that the fight to restore liberty, and respect for the Constitution, is a long one. So he has been focusing on visiting college campuses, because the next generation of voters, and leaders, are there right now," said Mike Munger, chair of the political science department at Duke.
"It will be an honor to host him. It gives students a learning opportunity to see a presidential candidate in action up close, which is exciting. It also continues a tradition of openness at Duke, giving a forum to alternative views of every kind," said Munger.
Barr is on the ballot in 45 states as a third-party candidate. From 1995-2003 he served as a U.S. representative for the 7th district of Georgia. He now practices law in Atlanta and runs a consulting firm with offices in Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
Duke's political science department, which has an open invitation to all presidential nominees, is sponsoring the event.
