Nursing Gets a New Eatery

Cafe Duson serves casual dining in a cafe atmosphere

Patrons enjoy a meal at opening day at Cafe Duson

There's a new eatery on campus, Café Duson, located on the first floor of the School of Nursing building at 307 Trent Drive. The café is operated by Shawn and Jeanine Holland of Intimate Affairs Catering & Event Planning and will be open from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Café Duson offers a casual dining menu with a variety of "grab-n-go" items. Guests can also choose the hot entrée of the day, a cold beverage or dessert item. And as with a traditional café, patrons can also get a hot espresso beverage or a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

The Hollands praise the Duke School of Nursing for creating a modern, yet functional space for the café. The counter tops are smooth and curved and easy to maneuver around. The seating area is spacious and quite comfortable. Jewel-toned fabrics and high back chairs with swing arm ledges are very conducive to studying, and lots of natural light shines through the two story atrium.

The café will also serve as a reception space for lectures and other events.

The Hollands also say they are eager to get feedback from customers. As graduates of Johnson & Wales University, one of the nation's premier culinary schools, where they say they were taught the importance of providing a quality product with great customer service.

The Holland's commented that the School of Nursing leadership including space coordinator Mitchell Vann and Associate Dean David Bowersox treated them with great service as well. "They were both great to work with and very thorough. This project could not have run more smoothly." Shawn Holland said.

"The School of Nursing has been very committed to Café Duson from the very beginning," Jeanine Holland said.
