Duke White Pages Go Green

Recycling accepting phone books today

Recycle your phone at various campus locations

The Duke University Office of Information Technology (OIT) will be accepting old Duke phone directories for recycling at designated recycling and pick-up points on December 12 and 13. Duke faculty, staff and students can drop off their old phone books and pick up 2007-08 phone books between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. each day. Recycling bins will be present at all locations.

"With Duke University's Environmental Sustainability initiative, this year we are emphasizing the importance of turning in old phone books for recycling," said Wendi Clark, recycling and distribution coordinator. "It definitely helps to reduce the impact on our environment."

For each 500 books recycled, we save

· 7,000 gallons of water

· 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space

· 17 to 31 trees

· 4,100 kilowatts of electricity

The 2007-2008 Duke phone directory has 400 pages of telephone listings for faculty and staff, departmental listings, a campus map, coupons and yellow pages.
