Duke University's Fuqua School of Business Launches Public iTunes Site

Business speeches and interviews available for download to iPods.

Duke University's Fuqua School of Business has launched a website that allows users to download Fuqua speeches, interviews and conference presentations to their iPods. The site, http://www.fuqua.duke.edu/itunes, is part of Apple Computer, Inc.'s iTunes U program and can be accessed for free by the public.

Examples of material available on the site are a speech by Jamie Dimon, chief executive officer of JPMorgan Chase & Co.; the keynote address at the 2005 Coach K and Fuqua School of Business Conference on Leadership; and an interview with Duke professor John Graham on the results from the latest Duke University/CFO Magazine Business Outlook survey.

In order to view and download materials, users of the site will have to download free iTunes software from Apple. Users will have the option of signing up to receive automatic updates when new content becomes available.

The Fuqua on iTunes site has audio and video files grouped by category.

"Fuqua on iTunes U will allow members of the Fuqua community and the public to experience the business school in a new and different way," said Nevin Fouts, Fuqua's associate dean for information technology and chief technology officer. "This new capability will help us push the boundaries of current thinking for the use of mobile digital content."

Julian Lombardi, Duke's assistant vice president for information technology, said the Fuqua on iTunes U site represents the direction the university is heading in providing digital content for public consumption.

"We're taking what we've learned about sharing digital audio and video in the classroom via the Duke Digital Initiative and applying it in new ways that advance communication beyond the classroom," Lombardi said, adding that the Fuqua initiative will help guide the development of Duke's technical infrastructure for sharing digital content.

The Fuqua on iTunes U site is part of an ongoing effort by Fuqua to enhance how the school delivers its programs. In 1996, Fuqua launched its "place and space" learning model in The Duke MBA--Global Executive program, which combined use of the Internet with face-to-face instruction.

"New learning technologies allow us to think differently about the ways we design and deliver learning programs to busy executives around the world and allow us to enter new markets in new ways," said Raymond Smith, Fuqua's associate dean for executive education.

Smith said the first executive education program to use Fuqua on iTunes U is planned for next year.
