2004 Teaching Awards Announced
Awards honor exceptional teaching in undergraduate classes
Trinity College and the Center for Teaching, Learning and Writing (CTLW) annually presents teaching awards every spring. These awards recognize faculty members' excellence in undergraduate teaching and commitment to enhancing the educational experience of undergraduates.
(The University Scholar-Teacher Award is presented in the fall.)
The David and Janet Vaughn Brooks Award is granted to teachers excelling in science and mathematics. Alvin Crumbliss, Department of Chemistry
The Robert B. Cox Award honors teachers who encourage intellectual excitement in their students and a long-standing commitment to teaching. Orin Starn, Department of Cultural Anthroplogy
The Howard D. Johnson Award recognizes a full professor who inspires respect in the highest traditions of American democracy, free enterprise and Western civilization. Michael Munger, Department of Political Science
The Richard K. Lublin Award honors teachers who engender intellectual excitement, curiosity and knowledge of their field. Christina Askounis, Department of English
Three additional awards honor graduate students and fellows at the CTLW for exceptional teaching by graduate teaching assistants in arts and sciences and in the University Writing Program.
The Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching goes to a graduate student who teaches a class or serves as a teaching assistant. Rebekah Long, Department of English; and Gerald DiGiusto, Department of Political Science
The Duke University Award for Excellence in Teaching Writing goes to a writing fellow who demonstrates exceptional teaching in the University Writing Program. Derek Malone-France
