Share Your July 4 #DukeTimeOff, Win Prizes

So far, employees have shared 60 photos from across the state and world

“I'm on top of a mountain, literally, and also figuratively because I'm with a group of ladies that anyone would be lucky to spend time with,” wrote Sonja Foust, Instagramming a photo from the balcony of a mountain rental home in Fleetwood, North Carolina. “All the happy.”

Foust, senior program coordinator for the Office of News and Communications, isn’t the only person showing off a happy place as part of Working@Duke’s #DukeTimeOff photo campaign. In the first month, about 60 images have been shared via social media and an online submission form.

With the Fourth of July weekend coming up, faculty and staff are encouraged to capture and share their time away from the office during cookouts, gatherings with friends and family or travels across the city, state or country.

Katherine Lister shared this #DukeTimeOff photo of her in the South China Sea.

Among images shared so far, Katherine Lister posted a photo [at right] of her standing in the South China Sea while she was in Japan visiting her boyfriend, who serves in the Marine Corps. Lister, a laboratory tech with Duke Clinical Microbiology, said her two weeks away is good for both her mental and physical health.

“Working at Duke requires us to go above and beyond to maintain high quality patient care,” Lister said in her submission. “Taking care of ourselves allows for us to take care of our patients.”

Throughout the campaign, Working@Duke’s editorial team will be awarding prizes to staff and faculty who best capture their #DukeTimeOff. Prizes include Duke branded beach chairs, travel bags with beach items, as well as Working@Duke travel coffee mugs. Grand prizes at the end of the campaign include an overnight stay with breakfast at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club and lunch at the Washington Duke Inn’s Fairview Dining Room.

Duke employees can submit images using the #DukeTimeOff hashtag on Twitter and Instagram, on Working@Duke’s Facebook page and through an online form. Submissions will be accepted through Aug. 12.

To be eligible for prizes, photos must be taken between May 27, 2016 and Aug. 12, 2016. An ongoing collection of submissions can be viewed on this website

Below, Robert Streilein, a senior laboratory administrator in the Department of Dermatology, highlights a picture he took while visiting his son in Santa Monica, California. The photo was taken on Venice Beach while they were walking the boardwalk.

“This is definitely a change of scenery from Durham and shows my #DukeTimeOff,” he wrote in a caption.
