Visit a galaxy far, far away…on East Campus.

Duke will present a free outdoor screening of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” on May 20 as part of Duke Appreciation for employees and their families. The movie begins at 8:30 p.m. on the East Campus Lawn.

“The movie lends itself to not just children but older adults who may still be children at heart and have seen every piece of the Star Wars franchise,” said Regina McKoy, program coordinator for Duke Human Resources Staff and Family Programs. “Seeing it on the big screen outside at Duke is pretty cool.”

Employees must present a valid Duke ID at the event to gain free admission for themselves and their family members. Duke employees and their families can bring movie snacks and drinks, lawn chairs, and blankets. Popcorn will be provided for up to four people per Duke ID while supplies last. Pets and alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

Families are also encouraged to bring cameras to take photos with Darth Vader, Jedi, Stormtrooper and Kylo Ren characters from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Free lightsabers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

After 6 p.m. on May 20, parking will be available in all East Campus lots, including the Carr gated lot. Parking will also be available at Asbury United Methodist Church off West Markham Avenue, in the Duke Human Resources lot off Broad Street after 5 p.m., and at Smith Warehouse after 6 p.m. The fare-free Bull City Connector bus also runs until 9 p.m. on Fridays, and the route includes an East Campus stop at the intersection of Main Street and Campus Drive.

In case of inclement weather, rain delays and cancelations will be posted on Working@Duke’s Twitter and Facebook pages.
