Welcome to the Week at Duke in 60 Seconds.

The Duke Lemur Center announced that a famous lemur now has a new granddaughter. Isabella is the newborn granddaughter of Jovian, who was better known by his television name, Zoboomafoo. Jovian died last year at the age of 20. Isabella? She’s doing great.

Duke students saw some snow last week and took advantage of the day off from classes by enjoying snowball fights and snowman building.

Duke researchers have recently shown how the claws of mantis shrimp evolved. Each part of the claw followed its own evolutionary path, including a spring-loaded strike mechanism that allows the shrimp to smash their food. Yummy!

Finally, alumna Retta Sirleaf came back to Duke recently to talk to students about comedy and acting careers. She encouraged them to go to open mic nights like she did while she was at Duke. Retta plays Donna on NBC’s Parks and Recreation.
