Bacon Is the New Black (Lemur)

Why is orange the new black at the Duke Lemur Center? Male infant blue-eyed black lemurs are born orange (the color of their mother) and change to black (the color of their father) after 4-8 weeks old. This male is named Bacon, after actor Kevin Bacon!

All blue-eyed black lemurs are named for famous people with blue-eyes. Blue-eyed black lemurs are critically endangered in the wild. Only a few thousand still remain in Madagascar. The Duke Lemur Center is the only facility in the United States with breeding blue-eyed black lemurs -- two females total.
