Duke Police Charge Man With Kidnapping, Robbery

The charges are in connection with an incident that occurred the afternoon of Saturday, May 19.

Duke Police have charged a 26-year-old Hillsborough man with kidnapping, robbery and assault in connection with an incident that occurred Saturday afternoon.

Jason Michael Moize, of 1603 Ben Johnston Road in Hillsborough, was arrested and charged on Monday with first-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault, said Duke Police Chief John Dailey. Moize is accused of approaching a woman in a Duke parking garage on Erwin Road around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, telling her he had a weapon and demanding she give him money. The woman, who was about to visit a patient at Duke Hospital, handed over money, but the man pushed her inside her car, jumped into the driver's seat and drove both of them to Oxford. There, he made the woman visit several bank ATMs before he fled on foot.

The woman then drove back to Durham and reported the incident to Duke Police, who identified a suspect. Warrants were issued Sunday and Moize was picked up on Monday by the Henderson Police Department.
