Former U.S. Department of Commerce official Raymond Vickery will discuss U.S.-India economic relations at Duke University's Sanford School of Public Policy on Thursday, Dec. 8.The 5 p.m. event in Sanford 04 is free and open to the public. Vickery's talk will be followed by a book signing.Vickery is the author of "The Eagle and the Elephant: Strategic Aspects of U.S.-India Economic Engagement." The book is part of his work as a 2008-2009 Public Policy Scholar in the Asia Program of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.Vickery, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Duke, is a senior director of Albright Stonebridge Group, where he advises clients on U.S.-India economic cooperation. His experience includes work with the Coalition for Partnership with India on nuclear initiatives, the Bollywood-Hollywood Initiative on film piracy, and the Coalition for Healthy India. Vickery served as assistant secretary of commerce for trade development in the Clinton administration, focusing on India in the department's Big Emerging Markets initiative. He also previously served as chair of the U.S.-India Business Council Working Group on Chemicals and Petrochemicals, working on tariff, liability and regulatory issues.Vickery is a former adjunct professor at George Mason University and served three terms in the Virginia General Assembly. He earned his law degree at Harvard Law School, and was a Fulbright Scholar in South Asia.This event is sponsored by the Sanford School of Public Policy.
