Name:Sarah Gullie

Position: Financial Management Analyst III, Duke Cashier's Office

Years at Duke: 1

How I got my job at Duke is:  I got lucky. I worked in banking locally for 20 years. A friend called and said there was a job opening at Duke she thought I should try for. I decided to take a leap of faith and go for it, and here I am.

What I do at Duke is: I work with the internal cash controls to make sure we are in compliance with regulations and that we are handling cash efficiently. The Cashier's Office is like the bank for Duke. Departments like Duke Stores, Dining and Parking bring all of their cash to us. And if a department needs cash for research needs or something else, they come pick it up from us.

My first job was:  Selling Durham Bulls paraphernalia in the retail shop at the old ball park when I was in high school.

My dream job is: Not to work. I like working, but it would be nice to be able to do volunteer work and not have to worry about earning a paycheck.

If someone wants to start a conversation with me, they should ask about: My 10-yearold son, Shane. He is my life.  He is very intense about ice hockey, and this year he is playing goalies. That's very hard on me because so much depends on him. I'm on the edge of my seat the whole game.

What I love about Duke is: The inviting atmosphere. People are friendly and outgoing. For someone that is new, that is important.

The best advice I ever received was: From my friend's mother. She told me, `don't start anything you aren't going to be happy doing for the rest of your life.' She gave me the advice just before I got married, but it applies to a lot of different areas of life.

The book I most recently finished was: "Let the Great World Spin" by Colum McCann. It is about the tightrope walker who walked between the twin towers in New York, and how the lives of various people in New York get intertwined.

The music I am most likely to listen to is: Anything on the radio. I just flip the stations until I find something that interests me at the time. My son loves the radio channel '80s on 8, so we listen to that a lot in the car.

Something most people don't know about me is: I love to bake, but I don't like eating sweets. I bake things like triple chocolate cheesecake and a coconut cream dessert for my husband and son, but I don't eat them. I like trying different recipes and then having a dinner party and saying `try this and if it isn't any good we'll throw it out and start again.' I never eat them. I just rely on other people to tell me which ones are good.
