A large oak tree was felled on East Campus by the winds of Hurricane Irene on Saturday around 2:30 p.m.

The tree, located in front of the West Duke building near the front entrance to East Campus, came to rest leaning against the building. A few students were in the building at the time, but no injuries were reported.

"Police escorted the students out of the building as a precaution," said Kyle Cavanaugh, Duke's emergency coordinator and vice president for administration."Crews from Facilities have responded and are in the process of cleaning up the debris and removing the tree."
