Football trivia top dogs win jerseys, autographed footballs

About 50 Duke faculty and staff members entered 10-question contest

Ira Mueller, a special assistant to the university secretary, won a game-worn jersey from Duke safety Catron Gainey.

Two knowledgeable fans will be cheering the Duke football team in game-worn football jerseys this fall after winning prizes in a Working@Duke football trivia contest.

About 50 Duke faculty and staff members entered the 10-question contest featured in the August edition of Working@Duke and online with Duke Today. Winners were randomly selected from a pool of entrants who got the most questions right. No one answered all 10 questions correctly.

In addition to two jerseys, three mini footballs autographed by head coach David Cutcliffe were also given away.

"My son played golf at Duke for four years and loves Duke sports," said Ira Mueller, a special assistant to the university secretary who won a jersey. "He's so excited about this!"

In addition to Mueler, the winners are Christopher Young, Department of Anesthesiology; Susan Grass, Pediatrics; Peter Burke, Department of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition; and Ed Tiryakian, Department of Sociology.

The most commonly missed question was about the first Duke football coach. Only two entrants correctly named Howard H. Jones.
