In this video, Gen. (ret.) CQ Brown Jr., Duke’s newly appointed executive-in-residence, delivers a welcome message to Duke student veterans.
“Today, you become part of a student network of more than 500 military-affiliated students across every school at Duke,” said Brown, who served as the 21st chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2023 to 2025. “At Duke, veterans aren’t just welcomed—we celebrate the resilience, discipline, and diverse experiences you bring that will enrich the academic experience for all.”
Brown also recently visited with graduate students in the Master of National Security Policy Program at Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy, directed by Tim Nichols.
During the July 30 visit, he discussed the importance of supporting the policy objectives and decisions of elected officials, as well as the need for security policy professionals to understand the viewpoints of different stakeholders in order to provide the best advice.
