Grant Hill: The Foundation of ‘The Shot’

To a Duke basketball fan, 2.1 seconds has a special meaning. In fact, most any college basketball fan can tell you it represents one of the most iconic plays in NCAA March Madness history. Final score: Duke 104, Kentucky 103.

In this video, one of the people who made that 1992 miracle happen tells the behind-the-scenes story of The Shot. As part of his Centennial Oral History, Grant Hill described what head coach Mike Krzyzewski said in the huddle before the play and why both he, Christian Laettner and the rest of the team came back out on the floor thinking they were going to win the game.

As highly ranked Duke’s men’s and women’s basketball teams start action this week in the NCAA tournament, enjoy this moment from the past. Fresh off its ACC Tournament Championship Sunday in a 73-62 victory over Louisville, the men’s team starts first-round action against St. Mary’s on Friday, March 21, at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh. It was Duke men’s basketball 23rd ACC Tournament title.

The women’s team will be at home against Lehigh at 8 p.m. Friday, March 21, in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Tickets for the game are available at GoDuke.com.
