Cook Society to Honor Gov. Cooper, Four Campus Leaders
Awards honor university and community members who follow the example of Duke’s first Black faculty member

- Samuel DuBois Cook Society Graduate Student Award: Eni Owoeye
- Samuel DuBois Cook Society Staff Award: Marissa Young
- Raymond Gavins Distinguished Faculty Award: Thavolia Glymph
- Distinguished Service: Hon. Roy Cooper
The awards were named to honor the scholarship and activism of Samuel DuBois Cook, a renowned scholar and activist who was the university’s first Black faculty member. Cook, who also served as president of Dillard University from 1975 to 1997. He also was a member of the Duke University Board of Trustees.
