Snowman with a banana for a smile

Snow Day at Duke. It’s Been a While.

Mixture of sleet and snow brought out the campus sled for the first time in several years

Members of the Duke community awoke Saturday morning to a campus coated with a glistening white cover.

The forecast had promised snow Friday night. Instead it brought a large amount of sleet, but with enough snow for students to head outside to create snow people and other snow art, make snow angels and go sledding.

Snow has been a rare sight on Duke’s campus in recent years. The last measureable snowfall in the area was 2022, which left barely any snowy footprints on the ground.

Below are photos taken by campus photographers Friday evening and Saturday morning.
