Questionnaire on Academic Freedom and Responsibility
The following was sent to the Duke community by the committee on Academic Freedom and Responsibility, Freedom of Expression, and Engagement, chaired by Professor Charlotte Sussman
In spring 2024, the Academic Council, in consultation with the President’s and Provost’s offices, formed a committee on Academic Freedom and Responsibility, Freedom of Expression, and Engagement. The committee is made up of faculty members from across the university. It received its charge and began its work in August.
An understanding of the experiences and perspectives of the Duke community is essential to this committee’s work. We invite you to provide your input on issues of academic freedom and responsibility by completing our brief online questionnaire. The questionnaire is open to all faculty, staff, and students, and responses will be accepted through Thursday, February 6.
The committee will also hold a Town Hall where community members can share their viewpoints. We invite you to join us on January 29 at 3:30 p.m. in Page Auditorium for this event. The feedback we receive from both the questionnaire and the Town Hall will inform the committee’s deliberations.
Thank you for your contribution to these important questions.
Professor Charlotte Sussman
