Engage with Nature and Community in Duke Forest’s 7,100 Acres
Duke community members can enjoy recreation, educational events and participate in volunteer efforts
For nature lovers in the region, Duke Forest has long been a refuge from the noisy and often hectic routine of modern life.
By driving to one of the many access gates, visitors to Duke Forest, including those in the Duke community, can enjoy recreation, educational events and even participate in volunteers efforts that help preserve its 7,100 acres.
Abby Niedermann, Nurse Anesthetist at Duke University Hospital, is one of many people who have chosen to combine their love of nature with volunteering as a community scientist for Duke Forest.
“It’s a really cool way to meet people and work toward a common goal [of] improving the health of the natural world around us,” Niedermann said.
