Said@Duke: Rachel Lance On Scientists Who Risked Their Lives To Contribute To The Success Of D-Day

The Duke Initiative for Science & Society's monthly event – Periodic Tables -- last week featured Rachel Lance, a biomedical engineer and author of "Chamber Divers." She talked about the journey of scientists who risked their lives in extreme conditions to pioneer the technology that would ultimately contribute to the success of D-Day.

“What these lab members were doing was essentially putting themselves in a darkened tube with no light where everything could catch on fire at any moment, they had a hard time hearing and it got up to insanely high temperatures, then they waited to see if they would have a seizure," she told the audience.
