Big Smiles at a 100th Birthday Celebration Across Campus
Heavy rain forced the parties inside, but there was little else to dampen spirits at three celebrations across campus of Duke’s 100th birthday Wednesday.
The day marked the anniversary of James B. Duke signing the Indenture of Trust that transformed Trinity College into Duke University. Celebrations were held midday at the Brodhead Center on West Campus, the Wall Center on East Campus and the Trent Semans Center at the Medical Center.
President Vincent Price was on hand at the Brodhead Center to serve up cake to the students and others who turned out for the event. For many students, it was a chance to take a relaxing exam break and say “Happy Birthday!” to the university. Exams conclude on Monday.
