This story has been updated to reflect the deadline for nominations has been extended until Nov. 7.
An internal search has begun for a faculty leader to guide the Office for Research & Innovation in supporting research and scholarship in the social and behavioral sciences, humanities and the arts, said Jennifer Lodge, Duke's vice president for research & innovation.
The associate vice president for research & innovation will be a key member of the Office for Research & Innovation leadership team, working closely with faculty and senior leadership across the institution to design, refine and implement services, programs and policies to further Duke’s position as a leader in world-class research and scholarship.
“This role is a wonderful opportunity to both learn from and support a diverse swath of Duke’s scholarly community,” said Mary Frances Luce, the interim dean of the Fuqua School of Business, who previously served as an associate vice president for research & innovation. “I also enjoyed the opportunity to serve on the Office for Research & Innovation leadership team. I already miss my interactions with my colleagues there.”
This role's responsibilities and expectations will include providing guidance on all aspects of the Office for Research & Innovation to ensure that the office delivers excellent service and support for all Duke's researchers and scholars, including faculty, trainees and staff, with an emphasis on those researchers and scholars within the social sciences, arts and humanities.
The associate vice president for Research & Innovation will also be expected to serve as a liaison between the Office for Research & Innovation and key leaders in relevant schools, university-wide institutes, initiatives, centers, libraries and administrative offices. A commitment to engendering trust, promoting equity and diversity, fostering a culture of integrity and ethics, and ensuring adherence to institutional, state and federal policies and procedures is essential to advance Duke’s research mission.
“Given how integral research is to the core of Duke’s mission, being a part of OR&I’s team is an incredible way to give back to our institution while helping us move forward together,” Luce said.
