Updates to the HR Policy Manual Effective Sept. 25
As part of a regular review process, Human Resources has updated the online HR Policy Manual with the changes to the following policies and procedures, which are effective September 25, 2024.
- Minors in Duke University Programs Policy (updated): policy name has been changed to “Youth Protection at Duke University Programs Policy,” and the policy has been updated to reference the oversight of programs offered virtually or on-site by the Office of the Provost. Other changes include the approval process, compliance requirements, and disciplinary actions for violations of the policy.
- Employment of Minors (new): the “Staff Member Who Is a Minor” definition within the Employment Status & Eligibility Policy has been expanded into a separate policy and updated to reflect that individuals who are younger than 18 years of age cannot be hired as a general policy. However, with approval from the Vice President of Human Resources or their designee, individuals between 16 and 18 years of age can be hired as employees, interns or through third party vendors.
A listing of all the changes can be found on the Polices section of the Human Resources website: hr.duke.edu/policies
