The Office of Climate and Sustainability is seeking nominations for Duke students, staff, and faculty who demonstrate their leadership in climate and sustainability efforts in support of Duke‘s Climate Commitment. This is a great opportunity to highlight the wonderful efforts of students, staff and faculty across campus who are embodying the vision of the Climate Commitment.

The Climate Commitment has 5 areas that touch all parts of the University, which are:

  • Education Integration - We will train and empower the next generation of climate leaders (including students, staff, faculty and alumni) through curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular and engagement-centered programming at Duke.
  • Innovative Research - We will engage in meaningful research that advances discovery, as well as mitigates, responds, and adapts to climate change.
  • Sustainable Operations - We will be a bold and visible example of living, working and practicing our values where being on campus means you are living sustainably.
  • Community Partnerships - We will partner authentically through robust mechanisms to source community-based problems to co-create a more sustainable place to work and live.
  • External Engagement for Impact - We will be a sought-out convener and source of expertise and analysis, known for purposeful partnerships for positive societal impact to address climate and sustainability challenges. We will demonstrate how universities fulfill and maintain the promise of higher education as a neutral collaborator and partner across sectors of society, the political spectrum, and the world.
