Duke’s Program in American Grand Strategy ‘Staff Rides’
A staff ride offers a unique opportunity for learning. The concept behind it is simple: to study earlier military campaigns by walking the battlefields. Being there – in the place where it happened – helps bring history and strategy to life.
With generous support from donors, alumni, and the university, Duke’s Program in American Grand Strategy has traveled on staff rides for nearly a decade, visiting Italy, Grenada, Vietnam, Morocco, Belgium and France, and Hawaii. These opportunities take learning outside the classroom and give students a unique opportunity to understand strategy and major episodes in US history, all while connecting with a growing network of alumni.
