The Check Yourself campaign runs from April 1-12.
Tim Cuellar, formerly known in Duke’s data systems as “Timothy,” is the proud owner of a new Apple iPad, but he doesn’t expect to have it for long.
Cueller, a project manager who works remotely for Duke Health Technology Services, will receive the prize after a random drawing from 3,057 people who made 6,469 changes to their personal information in the Duke@Work self-service website during the “Check Yourself” campaign in April. He checked all of his personal information and decided to update his preferred name from “Timothy” to “Tim” during the campaign.
“I have six grandchildren, and I think I’ll have a hard time keeping it away from them,” he said of the new iPad.
Every year, hundreds of important benefit mailings are returned due to old addresses, or family members of injured employees cannot be reached because an emergency contact is not in the personnel database. The “Check Yourself” campaign, which ran from April 1-11, was designed to encourage all faculty and staff to review and update their personal information, as needed.
While the campaign has ended, faculty and staff can update any of the following personal information through Duke@Work at any time:
Gender Identity, Pronouns, and Preferred First Name (such as Bill instead of William)
Race, Ethnicity, Veteran and Disability Status
Address and Phone Numbers
Emergency Contacts
Cell Phone Number for emergency text messages
Beneficiaries for Basic Life Insurance, Supplemental Term Life Insurance, Personal Accident Insurance and retirement accounts
Employees can also review the “View Summary of my Personal Information” in the My Profile section of Duke@Work to ensure education level is accurate, especially if a new degree has been obtained since hired, and that work location and work arrangement is accurate (on-site, remote or hybrid). Changes or updates to those two fields must be requested of your payroll/Human Resources representative.
For Cueller, who has worked at Duke during two separate stints from 2001-04 and from 2018-24, he’ll have to make another update to his personal information in November when he plans to retire and spend more time with those six grandchildren.
