Comments Sought for Regular Review of the Director of Duke Press
Editor’s Note: The deadline for comments has been extended to Feb. 23.
The provost of Duke University conducts regular reviews of all deans, vice provosts, senior staff, and faculty who have major administrative positions reporting to the provost. Provost Alec D. Gallimore has appointed a committee to conduct a review of Dean Smith, who is in the fifth year of his five-year term as director of Duke University Press.
The committee is chaired by Priscilla Wald (English). The other members are: Ralph Litzinger (Cultural Anthropology), Jennifer Nash (Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies), Jerome Reiter (Statistical Science), Trever Schoonmaker (director, Nasher Museum of Art), and Jennifer Siegel (Sanford School of Public Policy)
The committee would like to hear from any members of the Duke community who would like to comment on the performance of Smith or on the scope of his activities. The committee invites you to share your thoughts on this Duke online form.
Please include a description of the nature of your interactions with Smith or of the ways in which his work affects your own. Suggestions for constructive changes to the portfolio of the director of Duke University Press are also welcome.
All communications will be treated as confidential, to be shared only with the members of the review committee. An aggregate summary will be included in the committee’s written report to the provost.
The deadline for submitting comments is Feb. 23, 2024.
