Roberto Campos-Marquetti named AVP for Staff & Labor Relations
Campos-Marquetti begins new role Dec. 11, 2023
Roberto Campos-Marquetti has been appointed as the new assistant vice president for Staff & Labor Relations at Duke. He will begin his role on Dec. 11, 2023.
Campos-Marquetti is currently serving as the Director of Employee/Labor Relations & Workforce Compliance at Jackson Health System based in Miami, Florida, where he has responsibility of employee relations operations for 15,000 employees and six collective bargaining units.
He joined Jackson in 2008 and was promoted to Associate Director in 2010 before assuming his current role in 2016. Campos-Marquetti will be part of the Duke Human Resources leadership team reporting to Antwan Lofton, Vice President for Duke Human Resources.
"Roberto has deep experience in employee and labor relations," Lofton said. “This background will enable him to make substantive contributions to our efforts to foster a strong and supportive work culture at Duke.”
Rhonda Brandon, Chief Human Resources Officer for Duke University Health System, said Campos-Marquetti’s background working in a complex health care environment will enable him to quickly transition and offer support.
“We are focused on creating the best environment for our team members, so they can deliver the best care for our patients,” she said. “Roberto embraces our shared values and brings the experience and expertise to help cultivate and support this type of environment.”
Campos-Marquetti, who grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., earned a juris doctorate from City University of New York Law School and a bachelor’s degree in public policy from Cornell University. Before his career in Human Resources, he worked as a legal counsel at the New York City Commission on Human Rights and two law firms before relocating to Miami, Florida, and working at the Broward County School Board and the Jackson Health System.
Campos-Marquetti said he is looking forward to moving to the Durham area and finding a place where his dog Coco, a Belgian Malinois, can stretch her legs.
"Duke is a prestigious place, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the goals of the institution and supporting the people who work there,” he said. “This is an important role for any organization. Our goal is to provide advocacy not only for management but also for employees in a way that preserves the integrity of organizational policies and values in a compassionate way.”
Campos-Marquetti will fill the position vacated by Lofton, who was named Vice President for Duke Human Resources in March 2023.
