Duke Police Seeks Reaccreditation through CALEA
As part of a re-accreditation process, Duke University Campus Police Chief John Dailey announced the on-site assessment from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) that will take place from Monday, Oct. 16 through Wednesday Oct. 18, 2023.
This process, which occurs every four years, is part of the highly regarded recognition of public safety excellence.
The CALEA assessor, former Chief of Police for the University of Alabama Birmingham Anthony Purcell, will examine all aspects of the Duke Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services to verify that the department meets the commission’s standards.
As part of the accreditation process, university employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments related to the department’s compliance with the CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. Public comment can be given via the CALEA public comment portal found at the Duke Campus Police website or by visiting https://cimrs2.calea.org/194 . The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide our agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster our pursuit of professional excellence.
