Awards for Outstanding Higher Education News Coverage in State

“Solid, in-depth reporting, paired with compelling interviews with engaging data visualizations, the Triangle Business Journal tackled complex topics and made them easy to understand,” the judge wrote of their submission.

In the Online division, the staff of The Assembly received first place.

The judge wrote: “Rich, deeply reported stories that informed and enlightened the readers. Graceful writing. Important work that improved North Carolina residents' understanding of how power is wielded in their state. The profile of the High Point president was excellent.”

Duke has sponsored the Green-Rossiter Award for decades to highlight and celebrate excellent journalism on higher education issues across North Carolina. It is named for William Green, who served as Duke’s director of university relations and later as university vice president during Terry Sanford’s presidency at Duke, and Al Rossiter, who for 10 years was the director of the Duke News Service and assistant vice president in the university’s office of public affairs.
