In the aftermath of a mass shooting on the Michigan State campus, Duke showed its solidarity and expressed condolences to the MSU community through the sound of pealing chapel bells.
On Tuesday, the Duke Chapel carillon recital played the “MSU Shadows,” the Michigan State alma mater, as well as the school fight song “Victory for MSU” and other hymns of solace. Part of the performance was posted on Twitter.
Chapel carillonneur Mitchell Eithun is an MSU alumnus and said he wanted to show his support for the university in a moment of grief.
The Michigan State community felt that support. The original tweet about it has been seen by 542,100 people 18 hours after it was posted. Many of the Spartans responded with emotion.
