Get a Front Row Seat to Safety in Duke's Citizens Police Academy

Staff and faculty are invited to apply to the Duke Citizens Police Academy by Feb. 13 to experience campus law enforcement

If you’ve wondered what it’s like to patrol campus, respond to emergencies or investigate a crime, staff and faculty can get a can get a firsthand look during the spring session of the Duke Citizens Police Academy, which kicks off March 11.

The seven‑week program pulls back the curtain on the daily work of the Duke University Police Department. Participants take part in hands-on sessions covering everything from traffic safety and investigations to how officers prepare in the event of an armed intruder.

The series includes five Wednesday evening classes, a Saturday afternoon session and a midday graduation ceremony.

“Join the Duke Citizens Police Academy and learn about what makes the modern-day police officer,” said Daryl Mount, Duke Police Crime Prevention Specialist.

Seats are limited, and applicants are encouraged to apply by Feb. 13. All applicants must complete a background check to participate.
