Jiakun Xu is spending his summer in Nepal teaching at a village school as part of an independent #DukeEngage project. Jiakun grew up in Singapore and his first visit to the U.S. was when he arrived at Duke, so he’s excited for the opportunity to explore different cultures.
Emily Kuo is participating in #DukeEngage Seattle this summer. She is working at Solid Ground, a nonprofit organization, addressing racism and poverty while photographing her experiences on the West Coast.
Bryce McAteer is spending his summer at home in Southern California, vowing to try something new each day. He is also visiting Detroit and New York City before returning to Duke in the fall.
Rachael Lee is spending her summer participating in #DukeEngage Nicaragua-Granada. She is collaborating with other Duke students to design entrepreneurial solutions for rural communities there.
Ellen Yuan is in Durham this summer working with professor Susan Rodger on the Alice Project, an effort to bring computer science education to middle schools. She’s also traveling to Mountain View, California, to become a Google Student Ambassador for Duke.
Will Gallagher is in Beijing this summer honing his Chinese language skills through the Duke in China summer program. He’s also looking forward to visiting the new Duke Kunshan University campus.
John Davis is participating in #DukeEngage India-Jodhpur, a summer program Duke provides in partnership with the Foundation for Sustainable Development. During his weekends he is exploring multiple cities in India.
Chris Dieckhaus is interning at Automated Insights, a tech startup in downtown Durham. He’s getting to know the Bull City and is enjoying a number of Durham Bulls games.
Jennifer Levin is interning at the U.S. Mission to UNESCO in Paris, France, this summer through the U.S. Department of State. She enjoys capturing beautiful moments abroad and at Duke.
Esteban Peralta is participating in #DukeEngage Argentina this summer. He is working with “Techo,” a non-governmental organization that works to provide affordable housing to those living in extreme poverty.
Amy Fan is traveling around the country this summer, spending some time here in Durham for summer session and visiting family in Kansas and California.
