Miller Assumes Assistant Vice President Role

Robin Miller is the assistant vice president for disbursement services

Robin Miller has been named Duke's assistant vice president for disbursement services, effective immediately.

Miller will report to Tim Walsh, vice president for finance, and will have oversight responsibility for Corporate Payroll Services, Accounts Payable, Employee Travel and Reimbursement, and a new Financial Training department. Those departments collectively process over $4 billion of disbursements each year for Duke, while also working to ensure related business processes are efficient and effective.

"Robin is a respected leader within the university and health system communities, and is perfectly positioned to take on this broader role designed to increase her impact on Duke," said Walsh. "She has a tireless dedication to customer service, which she has consistently demonstrated throughout her career here."

Miller has worked at Duke for more than 20 years. A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, she joined Duke Corporate Payroll Services in June 1988 and was appointed director of the department in July 1995.

"Robin was an exceptional director because she could relate so well to our team members," said Anne Comilloni, director of operations in Corporate Payroll. "She had been there before and understood the issues."

In 2007, Miller was promoted to assistant controller, assuming oversight for Accounts Payable in addition to Payroll. In that role, she led efforts to enhance communications between her departments and their customers.

"Robin is a customer service guru," said Jim Allen, director of Accounts Payable. "She has helped us connect more effectively with hundreds of our customers."

Miller also oversaw the implementation of many business process and technology enhancements, including implementation of API - the corporate time and attendance system. She also oversaw the original implementation of the SAP HR/Payroll module and more recently the paperless payroll initiative.

Miller recently assumed responsibility for Employee Travel and Reimbursements and a new Financial Training department.

"Robin Miller has been a prominent and trusted leader within Finance for many years," said Provost Peter Lange. "This new appointment and her increased responsibilities are natural and well deserved."
