Calling All Former Female Student-Athletes

DURHAM, N.C.-- Did you participate in a Duke sponsored NCAA women's sport at the club level prior to it achieving varsity status?

If so, the Blue Devil athletic department is looking for you.

Duke Athletics and the Duke Alumni Association are celebrating 40 years of Women's Varsity Athletics with the “Winning Women: Advocates, Educators, Athletes” weekend February 23-26, 2012. While we are honoring the women who played at the varsity level, we also want to recognize the women who may have participated in a Duke sponsored NCAA sport at the club level prior to it achieving varsity status.

A “Save the Date” was sent out about a month ago to all former women's varsity athletes. However, due to incomplete campus records, there are dozens more women who participated at the club level during their time at Duke before their sport achieved varsity status, but whose names do not exist on our mailing lists.  If you believe you qualify for this, then please contact Carey Goodman at cgoodman@duaa.duke.edu and she will make sure you receive the proper information about the “Winning Women” weekend in February.

This weekend provides an opportunity to celebrate Duke's outstanding athletic and academic tradition. All former women's varsity athletes whose efforts helped lay the foundation for athletics to become an integral part of a woman's experience at Duke are encouraged to join us.

Some highlights of the weekend include: team reunions for former and current women's varsity student-athletes, Duke vs. Miami Women's Basketball game, Duke vs. VCU Women's Tennis match, Duke vs. Maryland Women's Lacrosse game, various panels and discussions on topics concerning the history of Duke academics and athletics, and a Gala for all Women's Weekend attendees.

We hope to see you there!
