Cupid Goes to Class: Courses to Get You in the Valentine’s Day Mood

At the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences, love isn’t confined to cards and chocolates — it’s something students study across disciplines, from the arts and humanities to the sciences and beyond.

This spring, a selection of undergraduate courses invites students to explore love, desire and connection in all their complexity. Here is a sampling: 

  • Introduction to the Writing of Poetry (ENGLISH 220S) shows how emotion becomes art, encouraging writers to transform feeling, observation and imagination into language that connects. 
  • Sexual Pleasure in the Modern World (HISTORY 112) examines how societies across time and cultures have understood desire, asking who gets to experience pleasure and how power, ethics and identity shape those experiences.
  • Romanticism Across the Arts (ENGLISH 490S) explores love and imagination at their most intense, tracing how passion, revolution and emotion shaped European literature, music and art.
