Trustees Begin Strategic Engagement Program on Duke Science and Technology (DST 2.0)

At its quarterly meeting, the Duke University Board of Trustees began a yearlong program of engagement focused on the next phase of Duke Science and Technology (referred to as DST 2.0). The goal of the program is to engage participants in a comprehensive process to identify, shape, and evaluate transformational ideas that will define DST 2.0.

The program includes participation by faculty, students, and administrators, allowing participants to gain collective insight, contribute their expertise, and provide advice to senior leadership in planning for the future.

Highlights of the September session included discussion of a vision and plan for DST 2.0 and an in-depth discussion of the Duke Quantum Center. In addition, the session featured a panel discussion with external experts focused on making strategic research investments to drive innovation and commercialization.

In other business, the board:

  • Welcomed new trustees Austin Beason, Anne Faircloth, Garheng Kong, Randy Peeler, Max Perkins, and Connie Shelton.
  • Congratulated Duke Women’s Head Basketball Coach Kara Lawson on her appointment as head coach of the USA Basketball Women's National Team.
  • Welcomed Lee Baker, vice provost for undergraduate education, and Tom Morrison, vice president for facilities.
  • Received annual reports on investment and financial performance, and an update on the university strategic realignment and cost reduction program.
  • Received updates on Duke’s global strategy and MADE FOR THIS:  The Duke Campaign.
  • Approved recommendations from the board’s standing committees, including fiscal year 2026 capital and operating budgets.
