Said@Duke: Writer/Filmmaker Tsitsi Dangarembga on Writing From Zimbabwe

Writer/filmmaker Tsitsi Dangarembga spoke last week at Duke about her recently released a collection of essays, "Black and Female." She also gave a reading at Rofhiwa Book Café in Durham. Dangarembga also wrote three novels centered on the character Tambu-- "Nervous Conditions," "The Book of Not" and "This Mournable Body." In addition, Dangarembgae has written and directed numerous films and leads the production company, Nyerai Films. She has been recognized for both her activism and her artistry. Recent awards include the Norway Authors Freedom of Expression Award, the Windham-Campbell Award and the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. She is currently a Joy Foundation Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study (Harvard).
